Sign-Up to Volunteer at the Race for the Cure!

Komen Chicagoland Race for the Cure 2011Race Dates:
Saturday, September 22nd - Chicago/Butler Field
Sunday, September 23rd - Lombard/Yorktown Center

Hundreds of volunteers help put together our largest fundraiser of the year!  We still have lots of positions open for both races!  Check out all of our race volunteers opportunities ranging from course marshalls, to registration to photographers!

Before you sign-up, please keep in mind the following:

  • We have a new registration system this year.  If you volunteered in previous years, you will still need to create a new account.  Once you complete the application, you will be directed to your personalized volunteer page.  Then you can go to the "Sign-Up" tab to select the job you would like to help at.
  • Only sign-up for one activity.
  • You can not be a race participant and volunteer at the same race.  For example, you can not volunteer at Registration and walk in the 5K on the same race day.  You are more than welcome to volunteer at one race and participate in the other.
  • Some volunteer positions require an phone interview/screening prior to being selected for the position.
  • All volunteers under the age of 18, must have their parent sign the volunteer waiver.
  • Check back often for new opportunities that may come up.  Specifically pre-race preparation opportunities.
* Group Volunteering - If you have a group of volunteers interested in helping, please email volunteer@komenchicago.org as soon as possible, so we can reserve your spots.
** We are doing special recruiting for "Key Volunteers".  These few individuals will help Friday AM through Sunday PM with setting up the races and logistics during the races.  Volunteers must be hard workers and dedicated. Much of the role is labor intensive.  It's good for anyone wanting to get experience on event set-ups and logistics.  Email volunteer@komenchicago.org if you are interested in being one of the "Key Volunteers".

Komen Tissue Bank is Coming to Chicago!

Tissue BankThe Komen Tissue Bank at the IU Simon Cancer Center was created in response to a need by scientists carrying out research to understand more about what is abnormal vs. normal in breast cancer.  By collecting tissue from women with and without breast cancer, or with a variety of benign breast conditions, scientists will be able to determine differences which ultimately could lead to a better understanding of the breast cancer process.

Saturday, September 29th in Chicago
Taking an hour to donate your breast tissue will help scientists get closer to finding a cure!

Learn more about the Susan G. Komen Tissue Bank, how to be a donor or how to be a volunteer.
(The target donor demographic is women of color and/or women over the age of 70.)
