The Profile is also a tool to assist community groups and partners in aligning efforts to fight breast cancer in the Chicagoland Area. Attend The Center of Jewish Genetics' Panel Discussion on October 14th

Center for Jewish GeneticsThe Center of Jewish Genetics is hosting an event entitled, What's Jewish about BRCA? Experts Discuss Your Risk for Breast, Ovarian, Prostate and Pancreatic Cancer on October 14th at the Chicago Botanic Gardens. The event is open to the public.

The panel discussion will include a keynote address from Dr. Susan Domchek, Director of the Basser Center for BRCA. The reception begins at 6:00 pm, followed by the presentation at 7:00 pm. Learn more»


Allstate Sprint and Stride Raises Over $120,000 for Komen Chicago

2015 Sprint and StrideOn September 24th, Allstate Insurance Company hosted a 5K on its Northbrook campus to raise funds for Susan G. Komen. The Sprint and Stride raised over $120,000 for Komen Chicago!

Mark Green, Allstate's emcee for the event, presented the check to Komen Chicago's CEO Susan Tybon and Board members Lauran Bromley and Rich Biller. Funds will be used to provide breast health and breast cancer care and services throughout the Chicagoland Area, as well as go to fund global research to find the cures. 

 


Komen Grantee, Metropolitan Chicago Breast Cancer Task Force, is Featured in O, The Oprah Magazine

Oprah MagazineAs part of its October issue, O, The Oprah Magazine, features an article about Metropolitan Chicago Breast Cancer Task Force. The mission of the Task Force is to save women’s lives by eliminating health disparities in Illinois, with a focus on breast cancer.

As a grantee of Komen Chicago, the Task Force offers many programs and services, including navigating patients to mammograms and breast health care and treatment.

Robinson Fresh Carves Up Healthy Treats at Lombard Race for the Cure 


watermelonRobinson Fresh, the fresh produce division of C.H. Robinson, was turning watermelons into sculptures and snacks for participants at the 2015 Lombard Race for the Cure. 

"We started the Pink Ribbon campaign back in 2007, using watermelons to help raise awareness of breast cancer," explained Gunnar Moriarty, Customer Group Manager of Robinson Fresh. "The added benefit of watermelons is that they are high in lycopene, which can help fight breast cancer."

Robinson Fresh had donated over $1 million to local cancer charities as part of their nationwide campaign. "Komen Chicago is the most recognized breast cancer organization in this region, and we enjoy being a part of helping the local community." Learn more»

Korean American Community Services Assists Uninsured Women in Need

Korean American Community ServicesJimyong Kim, Community Wellness Center Program Manager at Korean American Community Services (KACS), knows just how important annual check-ups and screenings are. Having been diagnosed with breast cancer last April, Jimyong is helping to provide education and outreach to uninsured, Korean women in the community.

With the help from Komen Chicago grant money, KACS not only runs breast cancer awareness programs in local venues, it also helps to schedule mammograms for women and notify them to get their annual exams. For more information, contact KACS at 847-520-1999.

Register your Business, School for Komen Chicago's Key Chain Project!

hil_keychain_project200.pngKomen Chicago is excited to announce a new educational program! The Key Chain Project is an engaging, volunteer project that is perfect for businesses, schools, social clubs and groups.

In addition to learning more about breast health and Komen Chicago's efforts to end breast cancer, the primary message of the project is that mammograms are critical and Early Detection is Key! The keychains individuals will make serve as a visual reminder for women to get regular mammograms. Submit your group's request for the keychain project here

Thanks to the more than 2,500 people who came out to the 6th Annual Lombard Race for the Cure on September 20th! It was an amazing morning of celebration and honoring everyone who is affected by this disease. The books will be open until October 31st, so if you haven't made your donation, don't wait!
