General Race Information
Q. Are we canceling Race for the Cure?
A. In light of the recent progression of COVID-19, this year, the Susan G. Komen Chicago Race for the Cure will be virtual. Race where you are!
Q. When is the Race?
A. The Race is October 24, 2020
Q. How much is the registration fee?
A. There is no registration fee
Q. I already registered; can I get a refund?
A. All participant registration fees are non-refundable, as per the waiver that you signed when you registered to participate in this year’s Race for the Cure. For those that had already registered for the 2020 event, your registration will be added to your fundraising total.

Q. What does a virtual Race entail?
A. On October 24, you’ll Race where you are! We’ll host a Virtual Opening Ceremony to kick off the event, celebrate survivors and thrivers and recognize our top fundraisers. Use our Race app to set a step goal for yourself, and start walking!
Q. Will you still be honoring survivors and thrivers?

Q. What is included in registration?
- Access to our challenges and earn badges in our Race app:
- Step-based activity challenges
- Fundraising challenges and milestones
- Mission and Impact challenges
- Access filters and stickers for photos
- Window sign that shows you’re committed to ending breast cancer!
- Invitation to our Virtual Opening Ceremony
- All survivors and thrivers will receive a t-shirt
Q. How will I receive my Race t-shirt?
A. Participants who fundraise a minimum of $100 will receive a t-shirt. All t-shirts will be mailed. There will be no in person packet pick up. Participants who registered for the in-person Race prior to June 29, will receive a t-shirt, regardless of their fundraising total. All survivors and thrivers will also receive a t-shirt, regardless of fundraising total.
Q. How long is the Race?
A. Participants set their own step goal:
- Warm Up Challenge: 3,000 Steps
- Race for the Cure Finisher: 6,000 Steps
- Double Distance Challenge: 12,000 Steps
- 1 Day Challenge: Track all steps for 1 day
- 5 Day Challenge: Track all steps for 5 days
*1 mile is approximate 2,000 Steps
Q. Does the Komen Race for the Cure® require fundraising?
A. You are not required to fundraise, but we do encourage all participants to fundraise. Just Imagine the IMPACT - If every Race participant raises just $100, we would bring in an additional $50,000 to support local screening, treatment and educational programs in our community!
Q. Can I still fundraise for the Race for the Cure?
A. While we can’t gather in person this year, you can still fundraise to help create a world without breast cancer. At the end of the day, it’s about what we make possible together through your fundraising.
While you might not be onsite with your community, you can create a community of your own through our online fundraising tools. Check out these tips to maximize your online fundraising:
1. Customize your participant fundraising center so everyone knows why you support Susan G. Komen. Sharing your story is a big indicator of fundraising success, so make sure to share the link to your participant center through social media and email.
2. Make sure you have activated your Facebook fundraiser through your participant center. Just login to your fundraising center at the top of this page and click the “Start a Facebook fundraiser” link. Make sure you invite your Facebook friends to your fundraiser and reshare often!
3. Get creative! We know you may need to change your fundraising plans, but now is a great time to be creative with how you’ll hit your goal.
Q. How do I use the Mobile App to Fundraise?
A. The Mobile App allows you to fundraise on-the-go and track your progress. You can also track your steps and learn more about the impact you are having to end breast cancer. View the Mobile App guide to learn more about the features of the app to help you make a greater impact.
Q. How do I track my steps using the Mobile App?
A. Connect to Apple Health or Google Fit to track your steps so your everyday walk or run can be one to end breast cancer. Make sure to allow access to ALL step data for proper tracking.
Once connected, click the “Get Active” icon at the bottom to view your steps & activity challenges. Simply hit the Start button to begin recording your steps and select “Confirm” when prompted to save the information.
Check out all six available step challenge badges under the “My Challenges” tab, including the Finisher Badge for taking 6,000 steps to officially finish the Race for the Cure.
Q. Is Support Available if I am having trouble with the Mobile App?
A. Yes. In the top right corner of the App Home Screen click Settings (Gear Icon). Click this and then “Need Help?” to open the support portal. Search the app FAQ for an answer or open a ticket with our app support team.
Q. Do I need to mail in checks if I deposit them through the Mobile App?
A. No. You do not need to mail in checks if you have deposited them through the Mobile App.
Q. Can I still earn recognition items?
A. Yes! All fundraisers qualify for our fundraising recognition program. For those of you who fundraise $250 and above, you will be contacted approximately 4 weeks after the event to redeem your thank you gift.
Q. Does the money raised benefit people in our community?
A. Funds raised by the Komen Race for the Cure series supports Komen’s mission to save lives and end breast cancer through breakthrough research and ensuring all people receive the care they need. Through your support, our neighbors will benefit from research discoveries, public policy advocacy and direct patient support services.

For donations on behalf of an individual participant or a team, please include that information with your check.
Q. Is there a deadline for fundraising?
A. All donations on your behalf that are received by TBD will be credited to your fundraising total.
Q. When will I receive my fundraising incentives?
A. Your fundraising incentives are calculated based on the total fundraising dollars you have collected. Incentives are mailed after the close of our Race fundraising season, and you can expect to receive your prize TBD. Prizes are not cumulative.
Q. What are some ways I can fundraise for my team/my individual goal?

Q. How do I form a team?
A. To be considered an official team, you will need 10 or more registered members by the morning of the Race. You can form a team or join a team online. For more information, contact us at 844-668-7339 or email@example.com.
Q. What are the benefits of a team?
A. Forming or joining a team multiplies the fun you will have on Race day. You can create a team to celebrate a survivor or honor someone you have lost. You can also create a corporate team and get your entire company involved. To learn more check out the Team Rewards page.
Q. Do teams have to fundraise?
A. Teams are not required to fundraise but we strongly encourage fundraising. Fundraising as a team can be fun. Click here to get a list of fundraising events your team can do.
Q. One of my team members registered as an individual when they meant to join my team. How do they correct this?
A. Please contact race@komenchicago to get this corrected.
Q. Can donations made to a team be split or shared among team members?
A. We are unable to split or transfer donations between individual and team accounts.
